We can even write ourselves out of a bag, people!
Writing Personalities
Writers are creative people obviously. Whether the topic at hand is fact or fiction in nature, stringing words together requires creativity. While all writers share this trait, their personalities can vary greatly. Some writers are shy and introverted and others can be quite the opposite. Have you ever thought about your writing personality? Let’s take a look at three writing personalities, and find out which one is your match.
• Introverted Writer. People commonly mistake that all writers tend to be introverts who prefer the quietness of being alone with their thoughts and ideas. This type of writer thrives off of the creativity that comes when he or she is not diverted from the task at hand. There are benefits to having this personality type. One of them being that introverted writers can spend endless hours alone in a chair writing, while the opposite personality type might require the need to get up and get out more. Bad news for introverted writers is that networking, self-promoting, and marketing might not come as easy as necessary in the world of writing.
• Extroverted Writer. Introverts get creative juices from being alone, and extroverts gather all of their creativity from being around people. The conversations and meetings give organic ideas to this type of writer. The people skills that extroverts have will benefit in both their writing and networking. Some might have to battle with the need to be out and about all the time and might find that projects sit unfinished forever.
• Mixed Writer. Being in between an introvert and extrovert can translate well for writers. The mixed personalities can tend to be very flexible and easy to adapt. People skills and the ability to get work done are both bonuses for this type of writer.
These personality types can be determining factors for how a writer puts together his or her work, but that does not mean that the personality types cannot be overcome. Introverts can learn to network and extroverts can learn to buckle down a little bit, and the two can write about characters with their opposite personality traits.
What type of writer personality do you have? Do you have the best of both types with a mixed personality or are you an introvert or extrovert? Have you found that you have any problems with your writing because of the type of personality you possess?
