This is when we do most or all of the writing for you, as your "ghost." If you want to write a book manuscript or script for television, video, radio or a movie, we will help you create it. We only need your ideas, original and otherwise, and guidance from you on this. We work for you for a fee - and we don't have to take any of the credit or copyrights for your ideas. They can be assigned completely to you. That's why we're your friendly neighborhood "ghosts." We charge you upfront to write or rewrite your work for you, or "on spec," taking a percentage of your book sales. We cannot do this except in the case of books that are highly likely to sell well, so please ask us about this. In some cases, we will take a smaller payment upfront and also a percentage of the book's sales.

We do most or all of your writing work when we are ghost writers, mostly helping you through emails, snail mails, over the phone, personal interviews, and through materials you might send us, such as tapes and photos. "We do your writing work...?" This may sound odd to you. Does it mean you're not the author of your book, someone else is, and you're taking all the credit for someone else's actual work? No, it doesn't. Basically, people use ghost writers when they either don't have the time to write their own books or the English or other language skills needed to be grammatically correct and saleable book authors - or both. This is not a "rip-off" or a "gimmick." It's a perfectly legal and legitimate pay-per-job hiring practice. You pay us simply to help you create, polish or finish your project, which is already in process, and which already contains your own original ideas.

When it comes to giving a ghost writer credit, there are many forms this can take. You can either state you are the author of the book, and give the "ghost" no credit whatsoever, or you can share full coauthor status with your writer. A more typical way to do it, in the case of a book, is to put "By So-and-So (you), as told to So-and-So" (the ghost writer) on the cover. This lets the readers know the book had a ghost writer, which is the most honest preferred method. Or you can simply put the ghost writer as your "Editor" on the book's spine, and/or perhaps on your acknowledgments page, where you credit everyone else who helped you. In any case, you'll be maintaining a professional relationship with your "ghost," one in which you may even find a good friendship.

You will work closely with a carefully chosen ghost writer, using your own ideas and resources. You will help your "ghost" create your own highly personal work, while keeping to your original "voice" as much as humanly possible. The ghost writer takes the pay for simply preparing the work for you, perhaps also adding his or her own original writing in the process. But it is always YOUR work, and you may share the credit or not - it's your choice. The ghost writer takes the pay for it, and you either get all of the credit or share it as agreed with your "ghost" - and you also collect the profits. These too can be shared with the ghost writer, on an agreed-upon basis as arranged by contract.

Our typical rates for a book ghost writer, or what's known as a ghost writer book or ghost writer service, range from $5-15 US per page for less than 100 pages, or $5,000-10,000 US - often only $5000 - to pay your "ghost" for a 200-400 page book manuscript. This doesn't depend on book length, however; it depends on the actual amount of work involved, and also on your budget. We do our best to keep within your budgetary requirements, but we do need to be paid, as we are ghost writers - true professionals who are working for our livelihoods. Please bear that in mind while hiring us for any project.

We typically charge only a total of $5000 US to be a ghost writer for a book manuscript, either fiction or non-fiction, as long as you are willing to make all payments upfront as we are preparing the work. Our rates for script writing and other work vary according to project size and work involved, too. Also, some of our ghosts charge more, and some charge less. We also charge less for jobs that work out to be basically copy editing - or in other words, where you have done the writing, and you only need it edited for grammar, content or both. And we always offer a free final proof reading of your entire book manuscript, where we check thoroughly for errors while working closely with you on this.

However, our rates always depend on the nature and amount of work involved - and your own overall budget. We will discuss this before undertaking work on your manuscript or other project, and related to your request or our needs, we will also sign a non-disclosure contract with you and your ghost writer, involving responsibilities, copyrights, and other such legal written matters. We also take time payments, made upfront in advance of each segment of the work as it's being prepared. These payments can be made over as long of a period of time as you need, such as six months or more, as we prepare your work.

Under some circumstances, however, we can arrange for low or no fees for sharing your/our ideas, authorship and copyrights - as "on spec" material. We can share rights ownership with you, percentages of book and other property sales, and coauthor status to lower your initial costs for assembling your manuscript, movie script or other such work.  We can also take advances from book agents and publishers. However, we do not always perform these services - we only do this in the case of work that we believe is going to sell, or work for which you have a market lined up in advance. But you may write and ask us about this, and also our partial pay, partial percentage plan, where we take a smaller amount upfront and also a smaller percentage of the book's sales over time, with a ceiling cap - set as agreed to between you and us.

These is when we do all or most of your editing for you, by performing copy editor services. If you need to edit a book manuscript or a script for television or a movie, we will help you edit and possibly rewrite it. We do this for a fee and we don't have to take any of the credit or copyrights for your idea. They can be assigned completely to you. That's why we're your friendly neighborhood "editors." We make corrections to grammatical and syntax errors, sometimes revising some of what you wrote to suit your potential readership and to increase your chances for commercial publication. We do this by making your work read and flow more smoothly and efficiently, and sometimes by "jazzing it up" - or making it more spicy, profound or thought-provoking. Sometimes, we rewrite for content, helping you avoid redundancy of expression and other common writing errors, such as technical detail errors. We can also perform a thorough manuscript or other analysis/evaluation of your work, pointing out errors and making suggestions as to what we think you should change.

Our rates depend on how much actual writing or rewriting we have to perform on your work, and the nature and scope of the work involved. But we typically charge $5 US per page for less than 100 pages, or $2,000-5,000 for general light to heavy copy editing, thorough proof reading and sequential fact checking of a 200-400 page book manuscript. If the work require substantial rewriting, or is harder or more academic or topic specific, we may charge more; also, different writers on our team may charge different amounts. Generally, we will charge you $2,000-3,000 for medium work copy editing of a book manuscript.

We do our best to help you create the greatest possible literature or public enlightenment out of your work, vastly improving its potential for sales by making it both marketable and saleable. Or we can do something as simple as merely proof reading your work for errors and carefully adjusting them. Just write to us and ask us about this.

We can write, rewrite and edit documents and create, edit or update copy on websites. We perform thorough proof reader services on all of your and our writing, and we always give you spotless copy. We can perform a major rewrite or simply correct mistakes and other typical errors of reasoning. We are a pool of talented professionals, each one of which has years of experience and expertise, and we also all have a great command of the English language.

Our rates for proofing vary from $2-5 US per manuscript page for less than 100 pages, or $1,000-3,000 US for a 200-400 page manuscript, depending on the nature of the work involved.

Freelance writing services can run $5-25 US per page for less than 100 pages and about the same amount for more pages, but we charge a discount for a greater amount of pages. Ask us about our pricing - it can vary widely on a case by case basis, and we try to work within your budget as much as possible.

Rewriting and copy writing services rates depend on the type of work involved and how much time and effort it will take. Sometimes writing is a blend of several of the styles mentioned above. We can simply charge you to work within your budgetary needs, in most cases, as long as we are making a "living wage" as writers. We can also charge per word count - or even amount of time taken to complete the job.

Did you know the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a True Genius? He went to college when he was only fourteen years old, and he graduated tops in his class.

The "Doctor" in his name is because he got a doctorate in the religious sciences - if you thought he was a medical doctor. No, he wasn't one.

Meanwhile, here is some info on me:

According to Mensa, the intellectual group, & everywhere else reputable that I've checked, I repeatedly score in the 90-95th percentile for intellect. The American College Aptitude Test ranked me in the 99th percentile for my English language skills. Because of similar Latin roots in English, I understand lots of French, Spanish and Italian, though I don't speak any of those languages fluently.

I could probably get by in Latin, but like William Shakespeare, it's all pretty much Greek to me.

Book Authors: Manuscript Book Ghost Writers and Copy Editors

By Karen Peralta

Would you like to make better money with a writing career? Perhaps you are already a book author or writer, or you sometimes work for newspapers and magazines, are a regular writer and updater of website copy, or you perform in some other paying writing venues. However, would you like a career where you can get steady work and make even more money?

You should become a manuscript or book author’s ghost writer, copy editor and proof reader. However, if you’re only starting to think about a writing career, I suggest you get a bachelor’s degree in English or whatever language; perhaps in language studies, English literature, creative writing, or English in general. A master’s degree or higher is even better. I myself have a combined degree in journalism, fine arts and creative writing.

Once you have that, you need to get some experience. You could be hired by literary magazines, especially at your school, or you could write articles for newspapers, perhaps starting your own column. You can also acquire writing jobs on the Internet by looking up work. I suggest avoiding the low paying bidding jobs and going for regular posted work at sites like Daylo, or other freelancer’s sites - where writing work is posted for free.

Once you have a few writing credits, you can begin your ghost writing career. I would suggest trying to get hired by a book ghost writers service, as there are many on the Internet. Another possibility is you can start your own service, as I did; mine is called Rainbow Writing, Inc., and we hire people who either have a lot of professional experience, a good educational background, and/or show a lot of writing talent. I have over thirty years of experience at writing, especially as a book ghost writer, copy editor and proof reader.

Once you get on the Internet, you will need to search engine optimize your website, post lots of articles with your credit box attached to them, or hire pay per click or other services to get advertising exposure. Then you can begin to acquire clients. You may start by offering a free five to ten page rewrite of a chapter the client sends you; this is what is generally expected of a book ghost writer and copy editor. You can quote a price, and I would start fairly low early on in your career, unless you have prior writing experience. Ask the client what he or she can afford, but stay reasonable, so you can keep your costs low and pay your bills.

As book ghost writers, copy editors and proof readers, we all need to make sure our clients are satisfied with their results. So while you are in the writing field, make sure you read copiously and on a regular basis, write short stories, poems and articles on a regular basis to refresh your writing skills, and be sure to work on a novel or two of your own. This will keep you handy when it comes to being a book writer for others as well. Another possibility is to keep a daily hardbound journal of your writing or simply comment on your daily activities, thoughts and dreams. This sort of thing can keep you really practices; I kept such a journal for over twenty years.

As to scheduling, it’s a good idea to take on as many clients as you can handle. Don’t overload, but you’d be surprised how much work you can do once you get into the swing of it. Try to get a book ghost writer job done in two to three months. If you charge $5000 per book at first, you can make $20,000-30,000 a year if you keep up on a regular basis. Once you have more experience, you can begin charging more money.

When you are a book author, ghost writer, copy editor and proof reader, you will find you are working a job that really consumes your time, so make sure you take the time to perform your other daily activities of family life, and set aside a one hour period every day to exercise. Book writers are one group of people who have the “sedentary lifestyle pattern” hazard, so in order to avoid getting sick, you must exercise. If you don’t want to go outside and walk, purchase a cheap treadmill. Those work quite well.

Book authors, ghost writers, copy editors and proof readers all need to maintain the standards of our profession. When you are a ghost writer of any kind, chances are you won’t be allowed to take credit for your work. It’s supposed to belong to the works true “author,” who is the person paying you to do the ghost writing. Even if you do most or all of the work, your client is the author of it and is the one who receive the credit, unless you make some other arrangement. If the client is willing, you can be coauthors with him or her, or make some other such arrangement, such as you getting credit and a percentage of book sales in lieu of upfront payment.

By the way – the method of payment for a manuscript or book ghost writer is upfront. You get paid in advance, in installments usually as the book is being written. This is the main advantage of being a book or manuscript ghost writer, copy editor and proof reader – upfront payment. You need to sound the client out on his or her budget, set a total price, and then ask for the first installment payment once you have been hired.

You might also sign a contract with a non disclosure clause with the client. The contract might be three way, if you are working for a ghost writing agency, or two way, if it’s just you and the client signing it. A non disclosure clause states that you won’t discuss the book’s contents with anyone not designated by the client as someone with whom you may do so. Also, copyright laws in the USA and several other countries treatied with the USA, such as England, Canada and Australia, state that the author of the ghost written work retains full copyrights. You can check with the US Copyrights Office on the Internet to read the full scope of these laws.

Basically, even if you write the whole work yourself from research and you get nothing but basic ideas for the book from the supposed “author,” he or she is still considered the true author of any such ghost written book, and will still hold full copyrights to all original material within it. This is, however, subject to whatever agreements you and the client make.

After the job is proof read, paid for and delivered, ask for a reference, also asking the client if it’s okay to run an installment from the work on your website - with a credit that you are the ghost writer. Also, when the book is published, ask the client to include a reference to your name, perhaps within the Acknowledgements, as the book ghost writer.

You also don’t have to stop as just the manuscript or book ghost writer. You may also be able to help your client set up to get his or her book published. This largely involves contacting literary agents and publishers. I would suggest contacting small publishing houses, and not the larger ones, unless you have a celebrity client with a large scale best seller on your hands. Due to confidentiality issues and ethical issues, you can’t maintain contact with literary agents and publishers on a regular basis, but you can acquire lists of these people in order to contact them. Some more disreputable manuscript and book ghost writers also set up deals with literary agents and publishers where they are sent clients’ work that the agents and publishers were sent, in order to edit it for them. Under the table money is made this way. It’s not considered to be ethical practice.

It’s satisfying to complete a client’s book manuscript and then find him or her an agent and/or publisher. You can get a percentage of book sales this way, or by negotiating a deal with the book’s author while you are being the book ghost writer. Sometimes a client will want you to work “on spec;” instead of paying you in advance, they will ask you to take a percentage of the book’s profits. Unless you’re sure the book is going to sell broadly, it’s not advisable to do this, or you could end up working for free. But once you’ve got a book publisher’s attention, anything is possible.

Writing can be a fulfilling line of work, so if you keep at it, you can have tons of fun working for authors, getting the first time one’s books written and published, and in general, having a “blast” as a book author, book writer, ghost writer, copy editor, and proof reader.

Get out there, now – and write!

Ghostwriting - Four Secrets To Earning Paychecks With Writing

By Melinda Copp Platinum Quality Author

Writers write because they love to do it. They look forward to sitting down at their desk to write each and every day, and they don't feel "normal" unless they do. However, not all writers make a living doing what they love. So, why are so many passionate writers not making a living?

Well, the answer is probably a little different for every aspiring writer. But writers that make money from their work use the following four strategies to be successful.

1. Invest in Your Writing

All the passion in the world can't make up for a lack of skill. So if you are really serious about your work and you want other people to take you seriously, then you should invest in your skills and your work. So what does that mean? Well, it could mean taking a writing workshop course, attending a writing conference, hiring an editor, buying a book on craft, or working with a writing coach. All these are important ways to better yourself and your writing, and they are all worth the investment. Just like any other craft or profession, as a writer you should constantly seek ways to improve.

2. Read as Much as You Write

When I get busy, I always get behind on my reading, and it always shows in my writing-particularly in my enthusiasm and creativity. And sometimes when I feel like I can't write anything, reading something really wonderful helps get me going. For writers, reading is essential; so subscribe to the newspaper and read it every day; subscribe to your favorite magazines and keep them handy everywhere; and keep a few books around, too. As a writer, you're not only reading for entertainment, you're reading to learn, keep track of what is getting published in the magazines you want to write for, and looking at different approaches and voices among your fellow writers. Study writing-it is essential if you want to sell your work.

3. Stay Connected to Other Writers

At other jobs, you get to mingle with your co-workers; but writing is a solitary profession. This has lots of pros and cons-a major con being you don't get to interact with like-minds every day. Sharing ideas and struggles and successes with a community of writers is very inspiring and motivating. Keep in touch with writer friends, network at workshops and conferences, and participate in online forums for writers. Even just keeping up with people on the Internet can do wonders for your writing and success.

4. Don't Be Afraid to Sell Yourself

Many writers hate selling themselves-they're afraid to put themselves out there and they've never sold anything in their life. But if you're serious about making a living as a writer, you have to put yourself out there. Market yourself, your ideas, and your writing skills to everyone you meet. You never know who is going to need a writer, so reach out in as many ways possible. Publish a blog, put together a web site, send out that idea, and continuously market your writing.

Writing is like any other business-you need to invest in your skills, know what's getting published where, network with other writers, and learn to sell yourself and your skills to editors and clients. Making a living as a writer takes work, but these four secrets can make it happen for you!
